The tour commences with a vist to Mengwi,a small village that has a glittering history as the capital of a powerful 17th century kingdom and home to an important temple from that era. The once great realm of Mengwi arose with the weakening of Gelgel in east Bali around 1650. The most splendid remainder from Mengwi’s former glory is indisputably the Pura Taman Ayun. This is probably the largest existing Balinese house temple built in the middle of the 18th century by Mengwi’s greatest King.Jatiluwih is a small mountain village located on the feet of mount Batukaru. Jatiluwih means “truly marvelous“. It has the most spectacular rice terrace view of the island.
Next onto Pura Luhur Batukaru,a Hindu temple located on the southern slope of Mount Batukaru, Bali's second-highest volcano. This was the state of the ancestral temple of Tabanan court and each shrine represents a different dynastic ancestor. This temple is one of the nine axial temples sacred to all Hindu Balinese and meant to protect Bali from evil spirits. Standing in front of the newly restored gates, it may take a moment to appreciate this most ancient and sacred site.
Finally you will head to Lake Bratan, located in the mountains near Bedugul, has the best view on a major Shivaite water temple that was built in 1663. The temple is used for offerings ceremony to the Balinese water, lake and river goddess Dewi Danu. Lake Bratan is known as the Lake of Holy Mountain due to the fertility of this area. Located 1200m above sea level, it has a cold tropical climate.)
